A Fort Point Vision for Public Art Fort Point District, Boston, MA In partnership with Ricardo Barreto, Director, UrbanArts Institute and Jed Speare, Director, Mobius A Fort Point Vision for Public Art was both open forum and public art project and was conceived as a community-driven response for Fort Point development with the goal to discuss the future of public art in the neighborhood. Charrette findings and art projects were documented in a brochure which was forwarded to participants, planning agencies and developers as a resource. Download Fort Point Vision for Public Art A Public Record of Opinion (PDF). Ultimately, success of the project will be evident in the creation of policies that integrate the arts, artists and open space in the planning of Fort Point and the Artery corridor. The project took place as a four-day community-driven think tank comprised of a diverse group of over 100 participants from Fort Point and Greater Boston, including artists, arts administrators, City planners, architects and corporate representatives. Ten temporary public art projects complemented the think tank in multiple locations, including Congress Street Bridge, Summer Street Bridge, Fort Point Channel, Summer Street, A Street, and South Station Concourse, and Mobius. Art installations were created by Caroline Bagenal, Terry Bastian, Yani Batteau, Alison Canfield, Leslie Clark, Shauna Gillies-Smith, Danielle Krcmar, Melora Kuhn, Ruth Mordecai, Jessica Poser, John Powell, Reclamation Artists, and Lisa Roth. Events were coordinated in partnership with Jed Speare, director of Mobius and Ricardo Barreto, director of the UrbanArts Institute at Massachusetts College of Art. A project of the Fort Point Cultural Coalition Public Art Series, this initiative was funded in part by a grant from the Fund for the Arts, a restricted fund of the New England Foundation for the Arts, and the Boston Foundation Arts Fund.
